Recent data from Cleartrip, about the Top 5 International destinations for this monsoon season rates Thailand on the No. 1 position. Balu Ramachandran, Sr. Vice President, Cleartrip, commented, “This year, over 52 per cent of the domestic monsoon bookings made so far were made within a week of the travel date. The share of last-minute bookings has increased by 5 per cent YOY indicating a growing last minute travel impulse. Thailand, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Manila, and Singapore are the leading international destinations for the season.”
Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi held a series of FAM Trips, events, conferences, in India and Thailand during the months of August-September 2019 which has given a huge impetus to the outbound numbers from India and has contributed enormously to TAT’s marketing and branding activities.
TAT and Nok Air Joint Press Conference
The objective was twofold, to showcase the new products and services in Thailand and to announce the launch of NOK Air’s Direct Flights from Guwahati. Nok Air, is a Thailand-based carrier, which will introduce non-stop flights from Guwahati to Bangkok twice a week, beginning from September 22, 2019. Nok Air is the first International carrier to launch direct flights ex Guwahati to Bangkok enabling passengers to reach the vibrant city in less than three hours. Nok Air connects Guwahati to four more popular destinations in Thailand- Chaing Mai, Chaing Rai, Phuket, and Hat Yai via Don Mueang International Airport.
Vistara inaugural flight and Media FAM Trip
TAT and Vistara Airlines organised a media FAM trip to Bangkok on the inaugural flight of Vistara Airlines from Delhi to Bangkok on August 27. Around 5 journalists from prominent publications were invited for the inaugural flight and trip to Bangkok. The Tourism Authority of Thailand extended a traditional Thai welcome to all Vistara customers at Bangkok airport for the guests. Executive Director, in-charge of the Indian market and ASEAN team were present at the airport to welcome the CEO of Vistara and its passengers.
Global Panorama Showcase (GPS) is India’s Premier Travel and Tourism Interaction for the tier 2 and tier 3 Markets. Leisure travel has been on the increase and the Indian traveller is looking at more and more new destinations and hotel products for their holidays, and here Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets have proven to be the powerhouse for travel. GPS is today an opportunity to reach and connect to these source markets. Global Panorama Showcase (GPS) has completed 6 successful growth years and is continuing to grow. FAM Trip with Go Air and TAT
TAT New Delhi and Go Air jointly organised a Travel Agent FAM Trip for during 26th-29th Aug 2019 to Thailand from tier 2 and 3 cities (Patna and Ranchi- Eastern India. 5 agents from each city) to connect the cities to Phuket directly. The purpose of the trip was to acquaint with the services of Go Air and experience new and existing products and services of Phuket as a family destination, and to meet the sellers of Phuket directly through a B2B networking event organised in association with TAT Phuket at Plaza ll meeting room at Deewana Plaza Phuket Patong on August 26, 2019, a briefing of products was presented by the Director of TAT New Delhi Mr Isra Stapanaseth, concluding the event with networking and discussions.
Mr. Isra Stapanaseth, TAT New Delhi Director said, “We conduct FAM trips to Thailand every year, but this time we decided to invite our trade partners from Tier II and Tier II cities- Ranchi and Patna. We wanted to give them a first-hand experience of Phuket’s existing as well as new places and attractions. Thailand has welcomed around 1,142,944 Indians to Thailand between January to July 2019, showing a remarkable increase of 24.50 percent. We consider Tier II and Tier III cities as prominent markets and we are sure these cities will help us increase the inbound at a large scale.”
Thailand Golf Travel Mart 2019
TAT New Delhi office attended the TGTM 2019 which was held at Chiang Mai and Lamphun during 6-9 August with 2 media and 2 agents. The event has attracted a contingent of 116 top golf tour operators from 24 countries, to broaden the exposure of Thailand’s golfing attractions. B2B meetings, networking Golf and a product testing offer to golfers was organised. They also got a diverse experience of the Khantoke dinner, Borsang Umbrella Village, Wellness and Shopping.
Trip Organised for the Namaste Thailand Quiz Winner
TAT supported ground arrangements for Namaste Thailand Quiz winner. Showcasing Samut Songkhram and Bangkok including local activities like Community base tourism Banpang Blap community, floating market and other attractions in Samut Songkhram. The award ceremony was attended by esteemed dignitaries including H.E Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Ambassador of Thailand to India, Thirapath Mongkolnavin, Minister, Royal Thai Embassy, Thamanoon Kuprasert, General Manager, Thai Airways International, India, Embassy Diplomats, Quizcraft team and the contest’s grand prize winner and amazing participants along with their families.
H.E. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Ambassador of Thailand to India, congratulated the winners and conveyed his appreciation for the interest Indians have in knowing Thailand and ASEAN. He talked about how social media, being a powerful medium, helps promote closer ties between the peoples. He hoped that from the Quiz, the participants have learned more about Thailand and realised the similarities and linkages between Thailand and India, and hoped that the students will continue to be active supporters of Thai-Indian friendship, as the people-to-people relation is an important foundation of the bilateral relations.
The winners and participants were felicitated with certificates along with gifts from the Royal Thai Embassy, Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Thai Airways.
Sai Sandeep Ponnaganti, an engineering student from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, who stayed persistently on top of the leader board with the maximum number of points, is the grand prize winner. He won a return ticket and holiday package for two to Thailand. The runner-up, Ms. Balkesh Khichi also said that the Quiz was excellently executed, challenging and, at the same time, provided a profound knowledge of amazing Thailand.
