Indiatourism Northern Regional office is all set to welcome the Spirit of India Run in Delhi on 13th March 2016.
The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India along with State Governments of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Union Territory of Chandigarh are supporting ‘Spirit of India Run’ by Mr. Pat Farmer, an ultra Marathon Runner from Australia. Mr. Pat Farmer is running over 4600 km in 65 days starting from Kanyakumari and finishing in Kashmir. He runs approximately 70 kms every day. He started his run on January 26th, 2016 celebrating India’s Republic Day and Australia Day.
The run entered Northern India on 27th February 2016 in Rajasthan through Ratangarh border and have covered important tourist sights such as Dungarpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Pushkar, Jaipur, Bharatpur. While finishing off the run in Srinagar on 30th March 2016, Pat Farmer would have covered Agra, Mathura, Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jammu also. Out of run of total 65 days, Pat Farmer would be running more than 30 days in Northern India itself.
Mr. Farmer is a multiple world record holder for endurance running and has run from the North Pole to the South Pole, and across Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, the Middle East and North America. He has served 8 years as a Member of Australia’s Parliament, with 3 years as Parliamentary Secretary for Education, Science and Training. Pat has raised millions of dollars for worthy causes during his 20 year running career.
“Mr. Farmer’s ‘Spirit of India Run’ is aimed at cementing relations between India and Australia; encourage tourism and personal relationships with a view to create awareness of India as a ‘Must Experience’ destination for travellers from Australia; and support causes and charity which in the current endeavour is to raise funds for education of girl child” said Arun Srivastava, Regional Director Northern India.
“This run has also provided a huge opportunity to various tourism destinations across the run route to showcase themselves in Australia and other markets as TV film being made on this event will be showcased in leading TV channels in Australia, New Zealand and other parts of the world” This effort is expected to boost tourism from Australia” said Arun Srivastava
Mr. Farmer has been overwhelmed not only by the warmth and hospitality extended to him during the run but also the Colours, Cultures, Tourism Sights of the country. Throughout his run, Pat has been welcomed & cheered by members of tourism fraternity, school children, hotel industry, media etc.
‘Spirit of India Run’ is also being supported by Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), Federation of Hotels & Restaurants Association of India (FHRAI), Hotel Association of India and Indian Heritage Hotels Association etc.
