THE Park Hotels, pioneers of luxury boutique hotels in India, presents a delightful culinary experience at – The Charpai Project at THE Park Hotels from February 12-15, at India Design ID 2019, NSIC Grounds, New Delhi.
The Charpai Project is commissioned by The Serendipity Arts Foundation. It has been re-envisioned by Ayush Kasliwal as a café for THE Park Hotels. The pop-up restaurant presents comfort food in a fun and contemporary style that will take you back to your childhood food favourites. Chef Abhishek Basu, Executive Chef at THE Park New Delhi has curated a special menu from farm fresh produce; a menu that celebrates indigenous Indian ingredients through authentic recipes from across the country.
Inspired by contemporary extrapolation of a highway stop, the pop-up restaurant is a playful interpretation of this truly Indian furniture piece – Charpai. The installation brings together multiple aspects of the charpai, from the techniques and patterns of weaving on the loom, to its portability. An abstract reference to the game of snakes and ladders, the installation instigates play around spaces that suggests interaction, and a lazy afternoon perched amongst the trees.
Talking about the partnership and the concept Ms. Priya Paul, Chairperson, Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels says, “At THE Park Hotels we draw from myriad cultural and global influences to create a stylish, vibrant landscape illustrative of contemporary India. Being at the helm of design, we are proud to be associated with India Design ID for the seventh consecutive year. Our pop-up restaurant is envisioned in collaboration with designer Ayush Kasliwal; the idea that invites imagination, and play, enlivening the whole experience.”
Sharing his experience, designer Ayush Kasiwal said, “It has been a wonderful experience working with THE Park Hotels for The Charpai Project. The installation was first commissioned at the Serendipity Arts Festival in Goa and is re-envisioned as a vertical restaurant set up here at India Design by THE Park. The guests can indulge in lip smacking comfort food at this unique creative pop up restaurant which is a playful interpretation of the charpai.”
