Sunila Patil, Director – Veena World, becomes Tourism Australia’s first Aussie Specialist Ambassador in India

Sunila Patil, Director at Veena World and an eminent name in the travel industry was adjudged the first Aussie Specialist Ambassador in India by Tourism Australia, concluding a closely contested and innovative competition. Veneeta Rawat, Director from Amazing Vacations and Heena Munshaw, Managing Director from Beacon Holidays were declared runners-up. Running for a period of six weeks, the contest saw over 800 registrations on the website and video entries coming in from all over India.

In this digital day and age, travel trade continues playing a crucial role in influencing the consumers’ holiday planning and booking process. To capture their attention and turn them into advocates for the destination, Tourism Australia has actively engaged with the trade under their Aussie Specialist Program. Announced in April 2019, the Aussie Specialist Ambassador provided the travel trade fraternity an exclusive chance of becoming a trade ambassador and winning a bespoke and customized trip to Australia.  To enter, the participants had to complete five modules and qualify as Aussie Specialist agents and were required to submit a two minute video entry explaining why they should be picked as Australia’s trade ambassador. The entries were judged on basis of destination knowledge, content and creativity amongst other parameters and as further assessment, shortlisted participants were interviewed by Tourism Australia.

Commenting on her win, Sunila Patil said, “Tourism Australia’s Aussie Specialist Ambassador is a fantastic and innovative initiative for the tourism industry. Our team at Veena World and I personally have always been really passionate about Australia, a destination that is growing in demand and appeal amongst our travellers and it is wonderful to be recognized as a trade Ambassador of this amazing country. To be effective in today’s dynamic travel scene it is important for the destination, travel companies and consultants to stay updated and focus on creating newer experiences and product offers for our guests, which is the core objective of the Aussie Specialist Ambassador program. Congratulations to all who participated, it is very humbling to receive this honour and I look forward to travelling to Australia and sharing my experiences with our industry colleagues.”

Nishant Kashikar, Country Manager, India & Gulf further added, “At Tourism Australia, we always endeavor to engage the trade partners with innovative schemes and incentives. Aussie Specialist Ambassador is our latest initiative and we are proud to say that it was well received by the industry. With numerous agents coming forward to participate with creative videos and ideas, the team had a tough time picking a winner. Sunila Patil, India’s first-ever Aussie Specialist ambassador has been a passionate advocate for Australia for over 20 years now and it’s an honour to officially cement her status as an ambassador. We are confident that her experiences and the content generated from the trip will act as a catalyst in not just encouraging more trade partners to sell Australia but also educating them on the benefits of the Aussie Specialist Program.”

Sunila will be heading to Australia on a spectacular 10-day hosted famil in June, where she will get an unparallel opportunity of upgrading her knowledge of Australia through an experience of an amazing array of destinations, attractions and remarkable accommodations. Her trip will be documented in a video to be promoted amongst their peers and on owned social media platforms.
