Shri Prahlad Singh Patel has been appointed as the MoS (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Culture and MoS (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Tourism.
Born on 28 June 1960, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel is an MP from Damoh Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh. He got place in Union Council of Ministers after 15 years. A leader from Madhya Pradesh, he has been brought in place of senior BJP leader Uma Bharti, who did not contest the Lok Sabha polls.
He started his political journey in 1980 as the President of the Jabalpur University Students’ Union. Shri Prahlad Singh Patel subsequently held powerful positions in the BJP’s youth wing in the state. He was once considered a political protégé of Bharti, got elected in the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1989. The 57-year-old parliamentarian brought a private bill for ban on cow slaughter in Parliament way back in 2000. He was the junior coal minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government in 2003. He parted ways with the BJP in 2005 but returned to its fold after three years.
He returned to the BJP in March 2009 and after five years, contested the elections from Damoh Lok Sabha seat from where he was re-elected this time. A four time MP, Shri Prahlad was a member of several committees such as Public Undertakings, Committee on Government Assurances Member and Standing Committee on Rural Development Member under the previous Modi government. He was also a member of Executive Council of VV Giri National Labour Institute and member of the Consultative Committee in the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
