It’s Time for Taiwan!

The current global health situation may have put a damper on travel plans, but Taiwan Tourism Board decided to bring Taiwan to India in a cultural evening at the Hyatt Regency in Delhi, that showcased the fun side of this East Asian nation. Among industry-focused workshops, travel presentations and a thrilling mixology showcase, the evening hosted senior members from travel management, hospitality, airlines and related industries.

A welcome speech by Ambassador Chung Kwang Tien, Taiwan’s Representative to India, was followed by an informative round of introductions by Dr Lin Trust, Director of Taiwan Tourism Bureau for India, Asia-Pacific and Middle East. The audience broke into applause as Dr Trust began his speech in fluent Hindi, introducing himself and his work. Colourful insights into Taiwan’s many attractions were part of this roadshow-cum-cultural evening that began with a series of informative videos. This was followed by a series of b2b workshops organised for the guests. The evening concluded with a dazzling aboriginal dance performance and a lucky draw that witnessed digital blogger, Shilpa Arora win herself a holiday to Taiwan. She promises to tell us more about it, as she packs her bags for a summer sojourn.

And Vincent Huang, considered one of the top three bartenders in the world, put on a thrilling display of acrobatic mixology, as well as a round of cocktails considered his signature selection.

“Visitors from India have been increasing year by year,” said Dr Trust, Director, Taiwan Tourism Bureau. “In terms of what’s in store for this year, 2020 is the year of mountain tourism. With 268 mountain peaks higher than 3,000 metres, we want more international visitors – we’ve had lots of youtubers explore our mountains. Moreover, the coming Lantern Festival has been held in Taiwan for more than three decades. Our goal is to end with 20 per cent growth, with more growth in tier two cities, and we are working with airlines as strategic partners for seasonal discounts. On the current health situation, the corona virus is a factor that will influence tourism worldwide this year, so each country has adopted its own protection mechanism. I hope they will control the virus, and all goes smoothly. Hopefully we have better business in 2020!”
