India an important but tricky market for Scandinavia

At the recently conducted road show by Scandinavian Touris Board in collaboration with Scandinavian partners, India emerged as one of the most important tourist market in Asia, but is also considered one of the trickiest one, due to the last minute bookings. Some of the partners present at the road show were, Visit Denmark, Wonderful Copenhagen, Innovation Norway, FLAM Fjord Norway Rsort, Bella Sky Comwell, Kompas and Scandinavian Solutions.

Mohit Batra, India Representative, Scandinavian Tourist Board, noted that there has been a healthy growth in the number of Indians travelling to these destinations, primarily from Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Bengaluru, producing a large amount of business.”
“There has been consistent growth from the India market to Scandinavian countries. Copenhagen has witnessed over 50,000 room nights from India every year. A lot of fixed departures to Norway are also earning good business. Lately, we have been gaining a lot through word-of-mouth publicity. Currently, our only challenge is to increase awareness about the destinations,” added Mohit Batra.

“Every year, we witness over 3,000 guests in leisure groups and 2,000 individual travellers, which give a total of 5.000 guests visiting Flåm and the Flåm Railway in total. We can see that the MICE segment is also increasing. As of now, we wish to promote leisure travel to Flåm, combining Copenhagen, Oslo, Bergen and Flåm, and aiming at a ten per cent increase year on year,” said Bengt Hammer, Sales and Marketing Manager, Visit Flåm.

Christel Viod, Team Lead- Leisure & Mice, “we are promoting both MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences/Conventions, Exhibitions) and leisure segments in India, and are expecting good percentage of growth. We mainly try and focus on the groups who book with us beforehand instead of last minute bookings due to the obvious reasons.”
