GTM of the GNTB in Wiesbaden: Strong performance for the German travel industry

With the 45th Germany Travel MartTM (GTM), the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) has added another chapter to the success story of the most important sales event for German incoming tourism

At the end of the two-day workshop, the GNTB conducted an on-site survey to determine the success of the sales event among German suppliers. According to the survey, 19 percent presented their products at the GTM for the first time, 81 percent at least for the second time, and over 38 percent more than ten times at the GTM. The evaluation of the event was even more positive than in the previous year: 98 percent were satisfied or very satisfied with their participation (2018: 94 percent). 94 percent expressed their intention to participate in the GTM again in 2020. Overall, 85 percent of the providers rated the GTM as a good or very good platform for business transactions. 80 per cent of the participants were able to make at least six new contacts in discussions with international key accounts, more than half of them more than ten per cent.

At the 45th GTM from 12 to 14 May 2019 in Wiesbaden more than 500 experts and decision makers from the international travel industry as well as trade journalists from all important source markets took part. In the Educational Programme, the GNTB and its partners informed international guests about the latest trends, developments and tourism products in Germany. During the two-day workshop at the Rhein Main Congress Center, they met around 300 suppliers from the hotel industry, incoming agencies, transport and local and regional tourism organisations, who presented the variety and quality of their services to an international audience of experts. To this end, around 18,000 appointments were arranged online in the Networking Tool. This year, the suppliers particularly praised the smooth process and the organisational support on site. The short distances in Wiesbaden and the use of public transport were also positively praised.

Mr Romit Theophilus, Director, Sales & Marketing, German National Tourist Office, India said “The Indian participants from the travel trade and media were not only updated on various attractions of destination Germany through various interactions but also availed this opportunity to explore Wiesbaden and its surrounding regions”.

Contemporary event organisation: communication in social media channels and green events

In order to present the event to as wide an audience as possible, the GNTB once again included social media channels such as Twitter (Hashtag #gtm19) in its communications this year.

The GNTB has been organising the GTM as a Green Event since 2012. The 45th GTM also took sustainability aspects into account. These include, for example, supporting environmentally friendly travel by train, catering from regional sources, dispensing with disposable crockery and including local public transport in the organisation.

International recognition through Green Globe certification

The Green Globe Certification Standard is a worldwide known certification procedure especially for the travel industry. Participants must document their activities in the areas of sustainable management, social affairs, economy, cultural heritage and environment in the Green Globe system. An accredited independent auditor assesses the company on site.

The next GTM will take place from 10 to 12 May 2020 in Rostock and Schwerin.
