The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved additional funding of Rs. 1854.67 crore for new projects sanctioned under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme in 2019-20. Ten projects that were sanctioned under the scheme in the previous year were given an additional Rs. 627.40 crore.
The additional funds are to be used for creating better infrastructure, last mile connectivity and spreading awareness about the circuits that are covered under the scheme, said Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar at a press briefing on Tuesday after the Cabinet meeting.
Launched in January 2015, the scheme was designed for integrated development of theme-based tourist circuits such as those related to Buddhism, the ecology and the country’s heritage. As many as 15 circuits have been identified under the scheme.
