State-owned airline Air India Ltd has announced that passengers travelling on economy class on its domestic flights will now get an enhanced free check-in baggage allowance of 25kg. That’s 10kg more than any other airline allows. There is more in store. Infants will also get a free baggage allowance of 10kg. This offer is valid only from August 12 to February 7. The December quarter is considered the peak season for domestic airlines because of festivals and holidays falling in the period.
“The free baggage allowance of the international sector will be applicable for passengers travelling on Air India’s domestic sectors and connecting to Air India’s international sectors and vice versa,” the airline said in a statement. According to Neelu Singh, chief executive officer and director, Ezeego One Travels and Tours Ltd, which runs Ezeego1.com, Air India’s decision is great news for travellers and a customer-friendly initiative by the airline. “This gives an incentive for families who would otherwise be forced to pay for excess baggage. I believe that other airlines will follow suit,” she said. Passengers travelling on Air India’s regional airline Alliance Air to connect to its flights and vice versa will also be eligible for this offer.
“However, this offer will not be available for passengers travelling exclusively on Alliance Air flights,” the statement said.
